From shelley.gupta at ucr.edu Thu Nov 5 13:15:22 2009 From: shelley.gupta at ucr.edu (Shelley Gupta) Date: Thu, 5 Nov 2009 13:15:22 -0800 Subject: [Msoadm] Phishing ALERT Message-ID: Dear Campus Community, Please, NEVER reveal your password in e-mail; incidents of Phishing are increasing and appearing more legitimate. Phishing is the act of sending an email which claims to be from a well-known organization (such as UCR's Help Desk, Webmail team, etc.) to trick the recipient into revealing information to be used in identity theft. When campus students, faculty, and staff respond to these e-mails, accounts and systems access must often times be closed and/or shutdown. After an account has been compromised, a result could be our campus email system being disallowed/blocked by ISP's such as Hotmail. It is imperative that you NEVER reveal your password (or any sensitive information) via e-mail. No legitimate organization would ever request your password via e-mail. For more information, please log in to R'Space (staff and faculty) or R'Web (students). Your assistance in assuring that all instructors in your unit are aware of the availability of iGrade as well as its associated deadlines for grade submission would be greatly appreciated. In particularly, visiting faculty and lecturers who may not be regular users of a campus web mail account may not receive or regularly review Scotmail and could benefit from a reminder from you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [] Dear UCR Faculty, The Fall 2009 quarter is well under way and iGrade will be open for the beginning of grade submission on Monday, November 30, 8:00 am (10th week). We appreciate your assistance in submitting grades in a timely manner prior to the deadline. If rosters are not submitted and processed by the December 17th deadline, grades will be marked with a GD for ?Grade Delay?. This notation prompts students many times to contact their faculty member directly and also disrupts the advising, financial aid disbursement, transcript requests, and other administrative aspects of the student?s academic progress. http://igrade.ucr.edu *DID YOU KNOW ? ? If you have your grades in Excel, you can load your grades directly from Excel to iGrade. ? iGrade is generally available ALL weekend for grade submission from Saturday morning at 7 a.m. through Monday night at 11:30 p.m. ? iGrade is generally available during the week from 7 a.m. until 11:30 p.m.. Fall 2009 Submission Calendar Grade submission opens Monday, November 30, 8:00 am (10th week) Grade submission deadline Thursday, December 17, 5:00 pm IMPORTANT TIPS AND INFORMATION FOR GRADING You must assign a grade for each and every student. Record an ?F? for any student who did not attend class. 1. COURSE NOT LISTED IN IGRADE If you taught a course and it is not showing in iGrade, please contact the scheduling contact for your department to ensure you are the faculty member in SIS assigned to the course 2. WITHDRAWALS Only students can initiate the awarding of a ?W? (withdrawal) on a transcript and they do this by completing a formal paper process. Withdrawals initiated by students are posted automatically in the student information system. If a student has not initiated a formal withdrawal please record an ?F? grade for that student. 3. INCOMPLETES Per Riverside Division Academic Senate regulation R1.4 ?The grade I (incomplete) denotes that a student?s work was of passing quality but incomplete for good cause.? If a student?s work is not of passing quality and you do not have a prior understanding with him or her regarding the assignment of an ?I? grade, the correct grade to assign is an ?F.? 4. NOTES ON ROSTER Please help us respond to future questions from students regarding grades by entering notes for any individual student with unusual circumstances, such as ?did not return after first midterm,? ?never showed up,? etc. 5. MISSING GRADES Please note that iGrade will not allow you to submit your roster without all grades being recorded. 6. MISSING STUDENTS Some students are permitted to add courses very late in the quarter. If a student who has been in attendance in your class is not listed, please add the student?s name and Student Identification Number, along with the appropriate grade. UCR GRADING SCALES The University of California, Riverside, has the following grade options: A+ A A- B+ B B- C+ C C- D+ D D- F S (satisfactory) NC (no credit) Per Riverside Division Academic Senate Regulation R1.1.1 ? The grade A+ carries 4.0 grade points per unit, the same as for an unsuffixed A; but when A+ is reported, it represents extraordinary achievement.? If ?SN? appears next to a student?s name on the course report the following scale should be used to determine whether the student has earned an ?S? or an ?NC? grade: Graduate Student Undergraduate Student ?S? grade ?B??3.0 or higher ?C??2.0 or higher ?NC? grade Anything below a 3.0 Anything below a 2.0 ?I? (incomplete) grades are assigned only to those students whose work is incomplete for good cause ?IP? (in-progress) grades are assigned only for classes extending more than one quarter If you have any questions about iGrade or you need assistance, please contact Renita Kearney, Assistant Registrar, at Renita.kearney at ucr.edu or x2-5969. Several taxable situations were not properly reported on employee W2 forms as the Accounting Office was not aware of certain (mostly exceptional) benefits being provided to employees. In an effort to avoid future W2 reporting errors, your immediate attention is required. Please take a moment to review the attached list of potentially taxable conditions. If any employees in your unit received these benefits for the period between December 1, 2008 and November 30, 2009, please complete the attached form (second tab of worksheet) and forward it via e-mail the Director of Payroll, Payables and Travel, Gabe Nwandu (gabe.nwandu at ucr.edu), with the following information by November 30, 2009: A complete review of the payment/benefit will be conducted and confirmed taxable situations will be reflected on the employee's 2009 W2. The department and employee will be notified. Please direct questions to Gabe Nwandu (gabe.nwandu at ucr.edu). Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Bush on May 21, 2008 and goes into effect on November 21, 2009. According to a white paper prepared by the Executive Office of the President, Office of Management and Budget, GINA is designed to prohibit the improper use of genetic information in health insurance and employment. GINA prohibits group health plans and health insurers from denying coverage to a healthy individual or charging that person higher premiums based solely on a genetic predisposition to developing a disease in the future. The legislation also bars employers from using individuals' genetic information when making hiring, firing, job placement or promotion decisions, and a revised "Equal Employment Opportunity is The Law" poster incorporating GINA language is now available. The required poster may be downloaded and printed below (If applicable, a Spanish version may be accessed on the HYPERLINK "http://www.humanresources.ucr.edu/default.asp?content=OnlineTools/UCR%20Mandatory%20Poster%20Matrix%20Feb%202009.html#Permanent" Mandatory Permanent Posters for All Departments website). To ensure a consistent and accurate process, the following guidance is offered: Prorate holiday pay for those participating in the START program, similar to any part-time employee. For employees with START schedules that are impacted by holidays (e.g., employees for whom the holiday falls on what would otherwise have been a day on which they were scheduled to work 8 hours, but now have the holiday prorated, thereby leaving them short hours during the holiday week), departments and employees should work together, in advance, to determine how best to fill the resulting gap in their work schedule (e.g., make up time/flexible schedule, use of vacation time, increase their START reduction in time for the month the holiday falls in, LWOP). If an increase in the employees START reduction in time is agreed upon, please have the employee complete a HYPERLINK "http://atyourservice.ucop.edu/employees/policies_employee_labor_relations/start/contract_amendment.pdf" START amendment and process in PPS (increase the START reduction in time percentage on the RTP line on the roster only) no later than 11/23/09 for the month of November (do not alter the distribution line on the EDB & contact Roberta Nardico in Payroll for PPS assistance, if necessary). If LWOP is selected, vacation and sick accruals may be impacted slightly. Additional information on the START program can be found by reviewing the HYPERLINK "http://atyourservice.ucop.edu/employees/policies_employee_labor_relations/start/0903_start.pdf" START Brochure & HYPERLINK "http://furloughmanagementresources.ucr.edu/START%20FactSheet%20Oct%2016%2009%20web.pdf" START Fact Sheet.
