Dear UCR Researchers,

It is our pleasure to announce that UC Riverside and Google Cloud have entered into a pioneering agreement that offers unique opportunities to the University, including unprecedented research computing services. In anticipation of what's on the horizon, UC Riverside and Google invite you to attend the Innovative Research Orientation on March 13, 2023, from 9 AM to 3 PM.

Orientation attendees will receive hands-on training from Google Cloud researchers and research computing experts as they learn how to use Google's cloud-based tools to support research workloads.

The orientation will also serve as an opportunity to share your research interests with our Google partners and seek out opportunities to co-innovate and transform research workloads. Following the event, Google and UCR ITS will work on a submission process for researchers to work directly with Google in critically aligned research areas (AI/ML, sustainability, genomics, bioinformatics, climate change, etc.).

Google is interested in the research being conducted at UC Riverside, and is looking for ways to empower faculty and researchers to focus on important work and achieve reliable results in a fraction of the time by leveraging the research computing power of Google Cloud. Institutions currently partnering with Google in similar capacities include Harvard, Georgetown, MIT, Stanford, and UC Berkeley.

This unique one-day orientation is open to all UCR faculty and researchers. You are welcome to attend all or select sessions, as well as designate a graduate student researcher or lab assistant to attend on your behalf.

Highlighted Session Speakers:
Volker Eyrich, Ph.D.
Customer Engineer & Practice Lead, Google
Dr. Eyrich is a scientist, technologist, and high-performance computing (HPC) subject matter expert with a background in advanced data analysis. Having received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Columbia University, he has two decades of hands-on experience with software development, product management, and support of advanced computationally intensive applications.

Charles Elliott
Enterprise Data and Research, Emory University
Field Chief Technology Officer of Education, Google
Mr. Elliot is a researcher, educator, advisor, and data innovator who has worked with Fortune 500 companies to implement, support, and customize analytics applications and platforms across a variety of industries, including Higher Education.
