Dear Faculty Colleagues,

UCR administration has received inquiries from the campus community about remote instruction in response to the student who was arrested by UC police after an assault rifle was discovered in a campus apartment. Following a full assessment of all available information about the student and the situation, including information that is protected by privacy statutes, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, UCR recommends against remote instruction. The student has been ordered to stay away from campus, and police and campus officials continue to closely monitor the situation. If a faculty member judges that student learning in their course is being impacted by holding classes in-person at this time, they may choose to temporarily switch to remote instruction or implement other adjustments for affected students.
