August 26, 2026
Dear Colleagues,
Senate leadership is aware of UCR's current expired registration status in
SAM.gov <http://sam.gov> and is actively engaged with the Office of
Research and Economic Development to ensure more frequent regular and
timely updates to you up until the registration is reinstated. Both VCRED
Torres and AVC Greer met with the Academic Senate Executive Council this
past Monday regarding the matter and RED’s planned next steps.
Additionally, I have participated in meetings on this matter called by
Chancellor Hu.
Though updates and additional information are expected to be forthcoming
directly to you from RED, I write to inform you that we have asked campus
Administrative leadership:
-
to provide an FAQ document for faculty by Friday, August 28, 2026
-
to provide instructions to faculty on how faculty can manage their
federal grant submissions, renewals, and payments now
-
to provide information on how this has happened
-
to convey what RED will do longer term so that something like this does
not happen again
Please note that faculty are encouraged to:
-
send a message to redalert at ucr.edu to inquire about the status of your
submitted grants and seek guidance on what to do about grants you are
currently writing or will soon write.
-
inform the Academic Senate Committee on Research (CoR) about their
impacted grants so that this can be reported in bulk to RED to be addressed
and tracked; and for CoR information and record. Please use
senate at ucr.edu with the subject line “SAM.gov Expiration” for your email
message to the Senate.
Best regards,
Ken Barish, Chair
Academic Senate
