Dear Faculty,

I hope you all had a restful winter break and a great start to the new year.

Being a strong mentor to our graduate students is one of the most important
contributions we make as professors. To recognize this vital work, the
Graduate Council and the Graduate Division are now accepting nominations
for the following awards:

*Senate 2026 Doctoral Dissertation Advisor/Mentoring Award*
One recipient will be recognized at the Commencement Ceremony and will
receive a $3,000 prize to be used for research expenses.

*Graduate Division’s 2026 Commitment to Graduate Diversity Award*
One recipient will be recognized at the Commencement Ceremony and will
receive a $3,000 prize to be used for research expenses.

Awardees will be presented with a commemorative plaque at the Graduate
Division Award Celebration in April 2026.

All UCR ladder-rank faculty are eligible. Letters of nomination are welcome
from current and former graduate students, faculty, and staff. To be
considered, a faculty member must receive at least one nomination letter.
We encourage you to coordinate with colleagues, current students, and
former students to assemble the strongest possible nomination package.
Letters should highlight what makes the nominee an outstanding mentor.
Nominees from previous years must be re-nominated for consideration.

Nominations will be reviewed by the Graduate Council Fellowship committee.
In evaluating nominees, the committee will consider the quality and number
of letters received, the number of students mentored, and the nominee’s
long-term record of effective mentoring. For faculty who joined UCR
mid-career, the committee will consider the nominee’s entire career, with
particular emphasis on mentoring of UCR graduate students.
