[Faculty] Urgent Academic Search Committee Information

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

In response to federal scrutiny, and on the advice of *UCOP* and *UCR* counsel,
please be advised that, effective immediately, *all members of academic
search committees are required to complete* the following 30-minute online
training (delivered through the LMS): *“Search Advisory and Hiring
Committee Best Practices.”  *Completion of this training remains valid for
three years and must be tracked at the department level.

*Importantly, this requirement applies not only to newly formed search
committees, but also to committees currently in progress that have not yet
received approval of a shortlist. *Search committees that have started
their work, but have not reached the approved-shortlist stage, *must pause
their work until all committee members have completed the required training*
.

While we recognize that this requirement may temporarily disrupt search
momentum, completion of the training is mandatory. Committees may not
resume their work until all members have certified completion of the
training with the recruit analyst assigned to the search. Thank you in
advance for your understanding and cooperation.

Finally, please recall that in May 2025 the two training courses previously
required of all search committee members were suspended following Executive
Order 14173. Those two courses remain suspended pending further evaluation.
