Dear Colleagues,

Message: Today – Monday, 14 September 2026 – we learned that a US District
Court rendered a ruling on the lawsuit filed by International Education
Organizations asking for a preliminary injunction in response to Department
of Homeland Security’s Final Rule Eliminating Duration of Status (D/S),
which was to go into effect on Tuesday, 15 September 2026. The judge ruled
today that that effective date of the Final Rule has been postponed until
the court issues a further order. The D/S rule would have given students
and scholars a fixed end-date to remain in the US, not to exceed four
years. Without the rule, students and scholars may continue to remain in
the US as long as they have a valid immigration form I-20 or DS-2019.

International Affairs will keep you updated as more details become
available.
