<p dir="ltr" style="margin:10px 0;padding:0;color:#303030;font-family:Helvetica;font-size:16px;line-height:150%;text-align:left">As we begin the 2026–27 academic year, I am pleased to share several initiatives that will shape our work in graduate education.</p>
<p dir="ltr" style="margin:10px 0;padding:0;color:#303030;font-family:Helvetica;font-size:16px;line-height:150%;text-align:left">On October 12, UCR will host the Chancellor's Retreat on Graduate Education. We look forward to building on the ideas from the retreat and bringing them to faculty across campus for a broader conversation about the future of graduate education at UCR. Your perspectives are essential as we move from ideas to action.</p>
<p dir="ltr" style="margin:10px 0;padding:0;color:#303030;font-family:Helvetica;font-size:16px;line-height:150%;text-align:left">We are also revamping <a href="https://us.list-manage.com/1B1WkWEq4X5?e=13fcd9fdd4&c2id=2e3cbbc06f9de2b0192f761d03b406cb&m=JtYlrH-7JY0uF-JopmQAlwet0TaJ19LUH9Rw2AeGRH4_NPBLDuQrbaNDZ9U=" style="color:#2a9ae7;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:none" target="_blank">GradSuccess</a> with new resources for our graduate students and postdocs. These will include <a href="https://us.list-manage.com/eKMtNvWq_L3?e=13fcd9fdd4&c2id=2e3cbbc06f9de2b0192f761d03b406cb&m=nCbf3zrcP2cp0YAmDpj4suYyYihteXLb7yPbu0O-sJDdTqrM6pEY-GJlnQw=" style="color:#2a9ae7;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:none" target="_blank">Instats</a> for quantitative methodological support and stronger collaborations with the <a href="https://us.list-manage.com/bILBxAdK_vG?e=13fcd9fdd4&c2id=2e3cbbc06f9de2b0192f761d03b406cb&m=_p0YjiT8mw2OvTXBQ8bz45C-o7fu7Ta15xObC6PwcPMJ7rP08nQEOKEFmuQ=" style="color:#2a9ae7;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:none" target="_blank">UCR Library</a> to provide resources in qualitative methods and the digital humanities.</p>
<p dir="ltr" style="margin:10px 0;padding:0;color:#303030;font-family:Helvetica;font-size:16px;line-height:150%;text-align:left">We continue to offer <a href="https://us.list-manage.com/O3NLsNoD19_?e=13fcd9fdd4&c2id=2e3cbbc06f9de2b0192f761d03b406cb&m=uCMpyRZGl7JlxQ9w41e78Ug741PXMdydeFGFYWfVyqSEtPkJBgHEXAzJXyo=" style="color:#2a9ae7;font-weight:bold;text-decoration:none" target="_blank">CIMER-based mentor training</a>. Shorter, two-day sessions led by Monique Posadas are scheduled in the Fall and Winter quarters. In Winter, our colleagues MaryJo Brounce and Kim Dyonne will lead a quarter-long train-the-trainer program that prepares faculty to facilitate mentor training themselves. These opportunities continue to strengthen the culture of mentoring across our campus.</p>
<p dir="ltr" style="margin:10px 0;padding:0;color:#303030;font-family:Helvetica;font-size:16px;line-height:150%;text-align:left">I am also pleased to announce that Dr. <img align="right" height="151" src="https://mcusercontent.com/16b960a15758a2e9f6cc8140d/images/77874dd6-12c4-bc09-8265-1fd0f90968c3.jpg" style="border:0px;width:125px;height:151px;margin:0px;outline:none;text-decoration:none" width="125">Linlin Zhao, Associate Professor of Chemistry and Director of the Environmental Toxicology Graduate Program, has been appointed Faculty Fellow for the 2026–27 academic year. Dr. Zhao will focus on developing a support structure for faculty applying for graduate student training grants, particularly NIH T32 awards.
