Protected Sick Leave and TARS Entry Code This communication is to inform the campus of recent Expanded Sick Leave as it relates to the Protected Sick Leave option made available to all staff and student employees. On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, Campus Communications emailed a notice to UCR Faculty and Staff informing the campus that expanded paid sick leave would start on January 1, 2025. Expand Sick Leave allows for ?protected sick leave? so that an employee may take the leave for a qualifying reason. Qualifying Reasons Include Paid sick leave may be designated as ?protected? under policies for staff and student employees when it is taken under certain circumstances defined in policy. Policy Definition Employees may designate paid sick leave as protected for the following reasons: * The diagnosis, care, or treatment of an existing physical or mental health condition of the employee or the employee?s family member; * Preventive care for an employee or an employee?s family member; or * Those reasons specified in policy for an employee who is a victim or whose family member is a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, or other qualifying acts of violence. The University prohibits any form of retaliation or discrimination against an employee for using or attempting to use paid sick leave designated as protected and for any other reason prohibited by policy. Procedures A local procedure was created to provide instructions to staff and student employees, to make them aware of the policy, ensure they know how to use the protected sick leave, and how to code it into the Time and Attendance Reporting System (TARS). Review the local procedure for additional instructions. If you have questions about the procedure(s), send an email to: hrpolicy at ucr.edu. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... EX and SX workers will strike on February 26-27. HX, RX, and TX workers will strike February 26-28. Please prepare for work stoppages and disruptions throughout campus. Please consider how essential services will be delivered in the event of work stoppages and inform us of any impact to services that need to be communicated to campus. We will follow up with a business services communication in the coming days. Any questions from employees about negotiations, union activities, and strike related activities should be directed to union representatives. Nothing prevents managers from engaging in normal conversations with employees concerning subjects unrelated to the strike or union membership. Please document attendance. If any employee does not report to work as assigned, UC will presume - absent prior authorization or medical certification - that their work absence during a strike period is strike related. Employees' pay will be docked for absences during the strike unless the employee is on authorized leave or taking vacation approved prior to the strike by department management. Sick leave may not be used during this period unless employees submit a statement from a physician verifying they were medically unable to work on the days in question. If an employee calls in sick on the day of the strike, the supervisor should inform the employee they will need to provide a doctor's note confirming illness on that day. Requests for medical documentation cannot be requested after the employee returns to work. (Note: Approved family medical leave and disability accommodation absences remain in effect and additional documentation should not be requested.) As is always the case, authorization for an absence from work (e.g., vacation leave or compensatory time) may or may not be granted, depending on operational necessity and without regard to the employee's reason for the requested leave. During the strike, please report any violations of the University's Time, Place, and Manner policy to labor.relations at ucr.edu. Please do not interfere with the strike, discourage striking or retaliate against striking workers, poll workers on their plans to strike, or surveil strike activities. Employee and Labor Relations will be on location during the strike to respond to any issues. Please feel free to reach out to labor.relations at ucr.edu with any questions or concerns. If short-term contracting out is needed for EX or SX units, please contact Cassandra.Serrato at ucr.edu. Vacation Leave Assessment (VLA) was applied to restatements of transactions that had originally zero VLA amount. 2. Grad Tuition Remissions were erroneously applied to a few transactions 3. Payroll Coordination & Analysis (PCA) Team is also looking into another finding related to Work study. UCPath is working with each location on the corrections, for UCR, PCA is collaborating with UCPath on this effort. Corrections will happen in phases, first phase by the end of this week, February 28. The second phase is planned for some time in mid-March. We will communicate and share additional updates on this issue as it becomes available. UCPath had determined that the UCPath GL Rewrite process released in phases, July 2024 and November 2024, was the cause for these errors. Due to this finding, the SCT GL confirm process has been paused since February 3rd, and will resume after a fix has been applied and tested on March 3*rd*.
