Sent on behalf of Academic Senate Chair Sang-Hee Lee
Dear colleagues,
I share the sad news that Victor Lippit, Professor Emeritus in Economics passed away on January 10, 2024.
Victor joined UCR as an assistant professor in 1971 until his retirement in 2012. During his 41 years at UCR, Victor maintained his extraordinary accomplishments as a scholar in radical economics, and as a teacher and mentor for countless students and colleagues. He was active in the Senate, serving on the Riverside divisional Committee on Privilege and Tenure and as Chair of the local and UC systemwide Committees on Academic Freedom. He also served on the Committee on Faculty Welfare. After retirement, Victor continued to engage with UCR, receiving the Distinguished Emeritus Award.
Attached is the beautiful tribute from the Department of Economics.
An event to remember and celebrate Victor Lippit will take place on April 6 (Saturday) as a hybrid event at Villa Gardens in Pasadena (842 E. Villa St.). For registration: https://forms.gle/bHQFHoqC64tKVWS76
