UAW (BX/BR/SSAP/RPSP Units) Strike Preparation Materials

*CONFIDENTIAL COMMUNICATION TO CAMPUS STAKEHOLDERS*

Dear Colleagues:

Over the past few weeks, the BX, BR, SSAP, and RPSP units, all represented
by United Auto Workers (UAW), held a strike authorization vote, which
passed on February 13. The vote authorized Union leadership to call a
strike once the current contract expires, which is February 28, 2026. *At
this time, they have not done so.* However, we anticipate these units will
strike sometime in the near future, likely in March. A limited
duration strike is likely, but an indefinite strike is also a possibility.

Attached are an FAQ document and a Strike Planning Checklist developed by
UC Systemwide Labor Relations (SWLR), which will help guide your
preparations for any upcoming labor action. *Please do not distribute these
materials to an audience broader than necessary.*

I will serve as UCR's Strike Coordinator and primary point of contact with
SWLR. UCR Labor Relations will develop a location strike plan outlining
details related to administrative management. We are also identifying
individuals for the Strike Planning Committee and will reach out to
designated representatives soon. Each department should work to develop
operational continuity plans and identify how critical services will be
maintained in the event of a work stoppage. Please contact Lidia Kos, Vice
Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies, regarding any academic continuity
issues. Please contact Charles Greer, Associate Vice Chancellor Research
Administration and Compliance, for issues related to research
administration. For non-academic related issues, your leadership may be in
touch with additional continuity related guidance.

If and when the strike occurs, we will establish a daily reporting
mechanism to track operational impacts once a strike is called, including
percentage of employees withholding labor, number of demonstrators, and any
other impacts.

Please remember to maintain a neutral stance in discussions with employees.
Guidance on permissible communications is included in the attached FAQ.

I will distribute information as it becomes available. In the meantime,
please review the attached materials and identify all employees in your
department belonging to the BX, BR, SSAP, and RPSP units.

Please reach out with any questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Jonathan Connolly
