Dear Colleagues,
In early Fall, I wrote to provide information
<https://senate.ucr.edu/news/article/26> about the systemwide review of Interim
Systemwide Guidelines on Faculty Discipline, as well as revisions to
Academic Personnel Manual (APM) Section 015 and Academic Personnel Manual
(APM) Section 016.
The review and feedback period has concluded and I am now sharing the
executive summary
<https://senate.universityofcalifornia.edu/_files/assembly/council-chair-to-senate-divisions-executive-summary-apm-015-016.pdf>
and accompanying table
<https://senate.universityofcalifornia.edu/_files/assembly/table-1-summary-of-new-proposed-faculty-discipline-policy-and-systemwide-guidelines.pdf>
that outline the key highlights of the original proposed revisions
<https://senate.universityofcalifornia.edu/_files/underreview/council-chair-systemwide-senate-review-fac-disc-guidelines-apm-015-016-24.pdf>
to these APM sections and accompanying systemwide faculty discipline
guidelines, the rationale for the changes and the resulting revised
proposal. The documents provide a concise overview of the evolution of the
proposal following extensive systemwide Senate review and
consultation. The proposal
has been updated
<https://senate.universityofcalifornia.edu/_files/assembly/assembly-of-the-academic-senate-agenda-1-15-26.pdf>
to include Senate feedback including UCR’s
<https://ucr-senate-public.s3.amazonaws.com/issues/25-26-ucrreapm015-016-discipguidelines-695fdd134efa8-.pdf>.
The Academic Assembly will consider this proposal at their meeting this
week. After which it will be included at the January 2026 Board of Regents
meeting.
Regards,
Ken Barish, Chair
Academic Senate
