Dear Highlanders,
As you prepare for fall break, it is important to acknowledge all of your accomplishments. Your hard work will soon culminate in a successful fall quarter.
Now, let me be clear, success is different for everyone. Some of you will receive high marks, others will have worked through life challenges or fears, and some of you may have realized that it was time to step back and take care of yourself. To all of you, I say congratulations! There is light at the end of this fall quarter journey.
Wellness is critical to academic success. It is also critical to acknowledge events that may affect the health and wellness of our campus community members. This past weekend, a horrific shooting in Colorado Springs, targeted the LGBTQ community in what should have been a day to remember the Transgender community.
Events such as these have the ability to affect the wellness of our students, staff and faculty who identify as LGBTQ or have family and friends who belong to the community. My hope is that during challenging moments like these, you can all remember that as members of the UCR community, we take care of each other, and you remember to care for yourself. Our campus has resources available to you in the form of staff and faculty who are ready to listen and mental health counseling services available to you should you need them at (951-827-5531), 24 hours daily.
As your Dean of Students, I want to let you know that I am proud of you and your journey, no matter what that looks like for you. I also want to remind you to stay safe and to please take this fall break for yourself if you can, to celebrate and practice self-care. I always say UCR students are some of the best and brightest the University of California has to offer. Thank you for a wonderful fall quarter thus far!
Wishing you a safe and restful fall break!
Best Regards,
