Overall, our ASUCR team has had a productive start to the quarter and we're working diligently to empower our students on a variety of initiatives and programming. To The UC Riverside Community,

Before we begin, please let me introduce the new Senate Meeting Recap Letter Initiative. These weekly letters aim to provide students with an accurate, accessible, and summarized means to learning about what ASUCR is discussing and completing during our weekly senate meetings.


ASUCR's 10th senate meeting of the school year was held on January 25, 2024! The Senate was in session for 41 minutes. To find past senate meeting agendas and minutes, please visit our website.

During this meeting, the senate unanimously voted to approve and ratify Senate Meeting Minutes #9, ECAB Meeting Minutes #1, Finance Meeting Minutes #2, and Green Grant W24 #1: Lab Coat Recycling.



The senate also unanimously passed legislation SB-W23-001: Updating Chapter XIII: President Pro Tempore & Legislative Review Committee (LRC). This legislative update allows for the President Pro Tempore to remove themselves from duties concerning the Senate Internship Program now that there is a Senate Internship Director under the Office of the Executive Vice President. This update was made to remove further repetition and inconsistencies within our governing documents to ensure that ASUCR may operate efficiently.



The highlight of this week's senate meeting was a verbal statement that was delivered by Vice President of External Affairs Angel Renteria. VPEA Renteria delivered disheartening news regarding the most recent UC Regents meeting in which students were treated with disrespect and were threatened with heavy militarized police presence during what was supposed to be a public meeting. During this meeting, the UC Regents decided not to pass the Opportunity 4 All campaign which would have allowed for undocumented students to find employment on campus. VPEA concluded his statement by asking all ASUCR officials to stand in solidarity with undocumented students and put forth a strong call to action for UC Riverside to mobilize! This call to action was affirmed by Executive Vice President Nguyen and President Ahluwalia.



Senator reports were delivered by Senator Narasimhan and Senator Pizzaro. Senator Narasimhan announced that she was working on a Global Fair and a Women in Unity event. Senator Pizzaro announced that she has had an active role in the Student Health Advisory Committee and will be hosting a joint SPP x SOE town hall with Senator Toral soon!



During Roundtable and Announcements, Senator Sreeram shouted out the CARE office for hosting a Bee Healthy with Your Honey Week during week 4.
