[Ucrfacultyandstaff] Passing of Dr. Stephen Wimpenny

Dear Colleagues,

I am deeply saddened to inform the campus community of the recent death of Stephen Wimpenny, a professor in the UC Riverside Department of Physics & Astronomy.

Dr. Wimpenny was an expert in the field of experimental High Energy Physics (HEP). He was an active member of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, which is located at the CERN laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland.

He taught undergraduate physics classes, including introductory physics for life science majors, and mentored graduate students.

Members of the UCR community are invited to a Memorial Service <https://www.physics.ucr.edu/news/2022/11/25/memorial-service-stephen-wimpenny> to celebrate his life on Wednesday, December 7, at the Church on the Hill in Riverside.

Please keep Dr. Wimpenny's family, friends, students, and colleagues in CNAS in your thoughts during this time of sorrow.
