[Ucrfacultyandstaff] Power Flex Alert – Please Reduce Energy Usage

Dear UCR Campus Community,



The California Independent System Operator, CAISO, and Riverside Public Utilities, RPU, has called for a Flex Alert (a request to reduce electrical consumption due to high heat) to lower energy usage from Thursday, September 1 – Monday, September 5 with the most critical hours being between 4:00 – 9:00 p.m.



Due to these conditions, we are asking the UCR community to voluntarily reduce their electricity usage throughout the day. Please consider turning off lights, unplugging unused appliances and equipment, closing blinds to deflect the sun, setting thermostats to no lower than 78 degrees, not operating energy-intensive equipment, and closing doors to keep in air conditioning, especially when you leave for the evening.



Facilities Services is taking measures to lower power consumption in non-research facilities and limit the impact of this reduction on campus. If the duration of the Flex Alert is extended, or we receive direction to further limit power usage, we will email impacted locations with the details.
