[Ucrfacultyandstaff] Dennis Cosentino

Dear colleagues,

The Provost's Office is responsible for notifying faculty and staff about the death of an active UCR employee. Regrettably, my office was unaware of the death of one of our colleagues, Dennis Cosentino, in August, and a notification did not go out to the campus community. I would like to remedy that with this email and offer my sincere apologies to Dennis' family, colleagues, and friends.

Dennis began working at UCR in August 2000, when he was hired as a Senior Building Maintenance Worker assigned to Aberdeen-Inverness. In 2002, he was promoted to a Maintenance A Mechanic working at Pentland Hills, Lothian, and then back to Aberdeen-Inverness, where he became a Zone Mechanic in 2019 and remained in this role until his passing. Dennis loved Aberdeen-Inverness and took ownership of the planter on the south side of the E wing. Over the years, he repurposed plants from areas on campus that were being renovated or demolished for new construction. As this planter is not irrigated, Dennis would diligently water these plants before he headed home on Fridays.

A native of Riverside, Dennis worked at the Mission Inn before joining UCR. He was first a Lead Front Desk Clerk, then a Carpenter. Before his time at the Mission Inn, Dennis worked in retail management at Suncoast Motion Picture Company and Warehouse Entertainment.

Dennis passed away on August 22, 2024, following a bike accident as he was making his way to campus. He is greatly missed by many, and my thoughts go out to his family, co-workers, and friends. We are grateful for his dedication to UCR and our campus community.
