Dear colleagues,

I write with sadness to share the belated news of the death of another active UCR employee.

The February 19 death of Nicki Valente, a standardized patient educator in the Center for Simulated Patient Care, was communicated to School of Medicine faculty and staff in February. An announcement did not go out to the wider UCR community from the Provost's Office at that time, and I would like to offer my sincere apologies to Nicki's family, colleagues, and friends.

Nicki joined UCR in 2022 as a standardized patient educator, moving from her hometown of Chicago. She quickly became popular among medical students and standardized patients, and was valued for her outstanding devotion to medical education and for providing students with the best experience possible.

Nicki is greatly missed by many, and my thoughts go out to her family, co-workers, and friends. We are grateful for her service to UCR and our medical school.
