Dear Highlanders,
I would like to personally welcome everyone, new and returning, to a new
year at wonderful UC Riverside. I am honored to serve as UCR’s Assistant
Vice Chancellor of Civil Rights and Title IX Officer. This role is a
tremendous privilege that allows me to work alongside our incredible
students, faculty, and staff to foster a campus of consent culture, respect
and belonging.
At UCR, everyone deserves to learn and work in an environment free from
harassment and discrimination, including sexual violence. This is an effort
I cannot undertake alone. Each of you play a critical role in fostering
this mission.
Know that at UCR, you are surrounded by a supportive community in which you
have access to network of campus resources designed to prevent and respond
to discrimination and harassment. Here are some of the services we provide:
- My office, the Office of Civil Rights (OCR),
<https://compliance.ucr.edu/office-civil-rights>is here to help
individuals explore supportive measures, file a report, and understand
their rights and options under both the UC Sexual Violence and Sexual
Harassment Policy <https://policy.ucop.edu/doc/4000385/SVSH> and
the UC Anti-Discrimination
Policy <https://policy.ucop.edu/doc/1001004/Anti-Discrimination>.
- CARE <https://care.ucr.edu/>provides confidential advocacy and
support to students, staff, and faculty impacted by sexual harassment,
including sexual violence.
- Confidential campus resources also include the Counseling and
Psychological Services Office (CAPS) <https://counseling.ucr.edu/>and
the Office of the Ombuds <https://ombuds.ucr.edu/>.
- The Dean of Students Office <https://deanofstudents.ucr.edu/> is
available to help students navigate university processes and connect with
both campus and community resources.
My commitment as UCR’s Title IX Officer is to ensure that all members of
our community — no matter their role on campus — have the tools, resources,
and support they need to thrive and create meaningful and lasting memories
during your time with us. I encourage you to reach out to ask questions and
engage in conversations that build a stronger, safer UC Riverside. As we
embark on this new year, I look forward to opportunities to connect, grow,
and thrive together as a community. Go Highlanders!
I look forward to a bold and inspiring academic year ahead.
Warmly,
*Holly Hare, EdD*
