[UCR Provost]

Dear colleagues,



The Provost’s Office is responsible for notifying faculty and staff about
the death of an active UCR employee. Although this notification is
regretfully belated, I am writing to inform the wider campus community of
the February death of Sheryl Alexander, a Senior Information Technology
Support Technician in Information Technology Services (ITS).



Sheryl worked at UCR for 35 years, with a career that spanned roles in the
original off-campus Computing Support Center, Business Administration IT,
and ITS. Most recently, she served on the BearHelp team under Campus
Support Services.



As a vital member of BearHelp, Sheryl was often the first point of contact
for students, faculty, and staff navigating technical challenges. Her
colleagues share that her role as a Tech III required a unique blend of
high-level troubleshooting and empathetic communication—qualities they note
Sheryl possessed in abundance. Whether assisting a student with a critical
login issue or helping a faculty member with complex data challenges, she
approached every interaction with an unwavering commitment to the
individual, treating everyone with equal care and respect.



Within Campus Support Services, Sheryl was recognized as a reliable
teammate, key subject matter expert, and mentor to technicians, colleagues,
and student workers. Her contributions were instrumental in streamlining
support workflows within BearHelp, ensuring the success of campus
initiatives, and providing consistent, high-quality technical support.



Sheryl passed away on February 10 and is greatly missed by those who knew
her. We are grateful for her dedication to UCR and our campus community.
