[UCR Provost]

Dear Colleagues,

I am deeply saddened to inform the campus community of the May 15 death of
Sharon Payne. Sharon served as Travel and Administrative Manager within the
College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (CHASS). Sharon started
her career at UCR in May 2008.

In her role, Sharon provided exceptional leadership and stewardship,
overseeing the financial and operational management of the CHASS Dean’s
Office, CHASS Facilities Management, CHASS Student Affairs, CHASS Travel
Team, and other college units. Through a strong commitment to service,
accountability, and collaboration, Sharon played an instrumental role in
supporting the college’s mission and ensuring the success of countless
financial initiatives and operations across CHASS.

Beyond Sharon’s professional accomplishments, she will be remembered for
her dedication to colleagues, thoughtful guidance, and willingness to
support others. Whether advising departments on complex fiscal matters,
managing critical college-wide projects, or streamlining procedures, Sharon
approached every responsibility with professionalism, compassion, and
integrity.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Quinn Payne, and their children. Please
keep Sharon’s family, friends, students, and colleagues in CHASS in your
thoughts during this painful time.
