Dear Colleagues,
As we begin Spring Quarter, I'm excited to share some key events and initiatives aimed at enriching the graduate experience at UC Riverside. First, mark your calendars for Graduate Student Appreciation Week, April 7-11. This week is dedicated to celebrating the hard work and achievements of our graduate students. Make sure to acknowledge the value your graduate students bring to your research group, graduate program and UCR. Highlights of the week include the Research Symposium on April 8th, featuring poster and oral presentations, and artistic performances, showcasing the breadth and depth of graduate research across disciplines, and the Grad Slam Final on April 11th, where students from CHASS, CNAS, BCOE, SOE and SOM will amaze us with their ability to present their projects in a few minutes. I urge you to attend these events to support our students and witness their remarkable work. I want to take the opportunity here to thank my Dean colleagues who have generously supported Grad Slam, both through participation and financial contributions to the semifinalist selection.
Looking ahead, we'll be engaging in important discussions regarding the Future of Graduate Education at the University of California report prepared by an Academic Planning Council workgroup. This report, vital for shaping the future of our graduate programs, will be addressed in a Senate-organized town hall, followed by smaller stakeholder discussions. I encourage you to review the report so we can collectively enhance the quality and sustainability of graduate education at UCR.
This Spring also brings a streamlined process for Graduate Student annual evaluations, Annual Mentoring and Evaluation (AME) form now facilitated through R'Grad. This new platform will improve goal alignment between students, major professors, and graduate advisors, while also providing the Graduate Division with valuable tracking and reporting capabilities. Programs retain the option to use their own forms and attach them to R'Grad petitions.
As always, I want to stay engaged with all of you and hear more about how we can continue to enhance the graduate student experience. Please feel free to email me or stop by my office in UOB 100 if you would like to chat, share your thoughts, or discuss ideas on how we can improve.
Best Regards,
Lidia
