Fall 2025
Faculty Quarterly
*Welcome to the New Academic Year*
As we begin this academic year, our focus remains on identifying the best
solutions to sustain and strengthen our graduate programs. This includes
carefully revisiting cohort sizing and exploring new funding opportunities
to ensure long-term success.
We are excited to welcome two new Faculty Fellows who will add training in
qualitative research methods to complement the quantitative training
already offered through GradSuccess. Their work will also focus on
identifying ways to better support faculty and students in mentoring
relationships, as well as strengthening our collective commitment to the
responsible conduct of research. In addition, we are launching a pilot of
our Graduate Student Mentoring Network with four graduate programs,
creating new opportunities for mentorship and professional development.
This Fall, we are also making changes to our monthly meetings with graduate
program advisors. Instead of large group sessions, we will hold in-person
meetings with smaller groups of faculty graduate advisors from programs
with similar research areas. These focused gatherings will allow us to
address issues and opportunities specific to each disciplinary area.
Faculty will also have many opportunities to participate in CIMER-based
mentoring training, further enhancing the mentoring culture across campus.
Together, we look forward to another productive year of supporting graduate
education at UCR.
Wishing you all a rewarding and inspiring year ahead,
Lidia Kos
Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies
*Meet Our 2025–26 Faculty Fellows!*
This year, the Graduate Division is piloting the appointment of Faculty
Fellows. These fellows have the opportunity to pursue a project of their
choice—one that reflects their expertise, interests, and passion for
graduate education. Their work is designed to advance initiatives that
benefit all stakeholders in graduate education, while also allowing them to
engage with Graduate Division leadership and staff to explore potential
opportunities in faculty-administrator roles.
We are pleased to welcome two Faculty Fellows—both of whom have previously
received the Commitment to Graduate Diversity Award, underscoring their
dedication to graduate education.
-
*Alice Lee*, Associate Professor in the School of Education, will
evaluate our methodological training offerings for graduate students and
expand them to include qualitative approaches to complement our existing
strengths in quantitative methods.
-
*Jimmy** Calanchini*, Associate Professor in the Department of
Psychology, will examine current graduate student mentorship training and
practices across campus, helping us to continue strengthening UCR’s
mentorship culture.
If you are interested in these topics, please feel free to reach out to our
Fellows. I know they will appreciate hearing your perspectives.

Many new graduate students are unaware of what constitutes academic
misconduct. Information on that and the process to report graduate student
academic misconduct can be found on our website
*Annual Review Reminder*
Every graduate program must conduct an annual review of their students.
Please work with the Director of Graduate Studies in your program to submit
these reviews via the new R’Grad petition (Annual Mentoring and Evaluation)
by September 30, 2025. If you have questions about the new submission
procedure, contact Associate Dean Kate Sweeny at ksweeny at ucr.edu.
*Grades, Exam Results, and Capstone Requirements*
Reporting grades and other degree requirements in a timely manner is
crucial for students to graduate on time. Late grades or degree requirement
reporting will result in graduation being delayed to a future quarter. See
the Graduate Division website
<https://graduate.ucr.edu/graduation-procedures-phd-masters-degrees?utm_source=UC+Riverside+Master+List&utm_campaign=60f27f63ec-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2024_02_08_08_57_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_-b69786bfc4->
for exact deadlines related to graduation.
*Deadlines*
The Graduate Division is implementing a more transparent and fair deadline
policy. We will be strictly enforcing all deadlines, as posted on our new
deadlines webpage
<https://graduate.ucr.edu/gaa_deadlines?utm_source=UC+Riverside+Master+List&utm_campaign=60f27f63ec-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2024_02_08_08_57_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_-b69786bfc4->.
Please ensure that you are monitoring your R’Grad queue so you do not cause
delays in your students’ petition routing.
