Re:       UAW’s Request for Recognition Seeking Exclusive Representation of Student Researchers

Dear Colleagues,
The United Automobile, Aerospace, Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) union, is attempting to organize UC student researchers in order to become their exclusive representative regarding terms and conditions of employment. Attached is a copy of the UAW's Request for Recognition and HEERA Representation Petition which must be posted no later than today, Thursday, June 3, 2021.
Please immediately (no later than end of business today) use the link to the petition (https://ucnet.universityofcalifornia.edu/labor/news/docs/univ_of_california_uaw_student_researchers_unite_public_notice.pdf) for posting on any electronic bulletin boards in employee departments (if they exist).
In addition to the electronic posting, the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB)’s regulations require that the attached documents be conspicuously posted on all employee bulletin boards in facilities where members of the proposed unit are employed, and that they remain posted for at least 15 business days. Please post physically, where feasible and as soon as possible, in locations where student researchers work.
Additionally, the Request for Recognition and HEERA Representation Petition will be posted on the Human Resources website under the “News” section with the heading of “UAW’s Request for Recognition Seeking Exclusive Representation of Student Researchers at the University of California.”  The notice will also be posted on the Graduate Division website and will be distributed to members of the proposed bargaining unit via email.
Please report to this office at labor.relations at ucr.edu<mailto:labor.relations at ucr.edu>, no later than Monday, June 7th, 12:00 P.M., where the petitions are posted with either a screen shot of the electronic posting or a photo of the physical posting. Employee and Labor Relations Directors at each UC location is required to certify to PERB that we have complied with our posting obligation in this regard. The notice, including the representation petition, must be posted today, Thursday, June 3, 2021 and must remain posted until Thursday, June 24, 2021 (for 15 business days). You may refer to pages 4 and 5 of the attached document for a comprehensive list of job codes in the proposed unit. Departments that do not employ student researchers or students performing similar work are not required to post the notice.
