Please inform your faculty and staff who use Mac devices that are not
managed through SDS that they need to update their devices to allow the
latest version of the UCR Security Toolset by October 27, 2025.
Colleagues,
We are writing to request your support in disseminating important
information to your faculty and staff who may be using a non-managed
<https://its.ucr.edu/uc-security-toolset#what-is-the-difference-between>
Mac laptop or computer to perform university work. Because these users
manage their own devices, they must take specific steps to update their
devices by October 27, 2025 to ensure full compliance with UC cybersecurity
requirements and uninterrupted access to secure UCR resources.
As previously communicated, ITS does not have administrative permissions
over devices not managed by ITS' Secured Device Services
<https://ucrsupport.service-now.com/ucr_portal?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0012086>.
As a result, users of non-managed Macs are responsible for initiating
and/or permitting any necessary updates. While we greatly appreciate their
initial installation of the UCR Security Toolset, the Toolset was upgraded
in August 2025. If they have not allowed these updates, further action is
now required before secure access checks are fully implemented.
Please inform your faculty and staff who use Mac devices that are not
managed through SDS that they need to update their devices to allow the
latest version of the UCR Security Toolset by October 27, 2025. Failure to
do so will result in the inability to access secure UCR resources once
secure access checks are implemented.
The following support options are available:

Your support in communicating this critical information is greatly
appreciated.
Sincerely,
Dewight Kramer
