Updates to UCR Procedure 650-28: Employment Eligibility Verification (Form
I-9)
Central Human Resources has revised UCR Procedure 650-28 (Employment
Eligibility/Form I-9) to align with current Form I-9 guidelines and
terminology, as well as to clarify the roles of departments and Shared
Service Centers.
Who The Revisions Impact
This revised procedure applies to all departments and Shared Service
Centers involved in managing employment eligibility verification, including
staff assigned to perform Form I-9 verifications and facilitate remote I-9
processing.
Revisions
Key revisions include:
-
clarifying department and Shared Service Center responsibilities related
to Form I-9 completion, verification, training, work authorization
monitoring, and timely processing;
-
updating the definition and procedures related to remote agents,
including responsibilities for reviewing original documents and completing
Section 2 through Tracker I-9;
-
adding and updating supporting definitions, including Form I-9, Hire,
Lists of Acceptable Documents, Remote Agent, and Remote Employee;
-
removing references to notary services from the remote I-9 process;
-
updating Form I-9 terminology to align with current USCIS requirements,
including replacing references to Section 3 with Supplement B,
Reverification and Rehire;
-
clarifying that Tracker I-9 is the system of record for campus I-9
records and that departments/Shared Service Centers are responsible for
reviewing and verifying Form I-9-related documentation;
-
providing additional clarification regarding reverification, rehires,
acceptable receipts, and expiring work authorization.
