ACADEMIC COUNCIL CHAIRS AWARD
FOR MID-CAREER LEADERSHIP
2023

The Committee on Committees is soliciting nominations for the 2023 Academic Council Chairs Award for Mid-Career Leadership. The award is to be given to a member of the faculty in mid-career - Associate Professor to Professor V - who has performed outstanding service to the Senate. Its broader goal is to honor, through the award to the recipient, all mid-career faculty who have contributed their time and talent to the Senate. The first award was presented in spring 2019. Funded through gifts from former Academic Council Chairs, the award carries a small honorarium. The recipient of the award will be chosen every two years by a majority of the full membership of the Academic Council. An announcement of the recipient will be made during the last Assembly of the Academic Senate meeting of the academic year.

Criteria for Nomination

The award is designed to honor a University of California faculty member at mid-career who has served the Academic Senate at the Divisional and Systemwide level and demonstrated:

  * Outstanding and creative contributions having a major impact on faculty governance
  * Exceptional promise in serving the Academic Senate
  * Exceptional abilities in working across the university's many and diverse stakeholders

Eligibility

Members of the Academic Senate at the rank of Associate to Full Professor, Step V or equivalent in other Senate titles. "Mid-career" will be defined for this purpose as those faculty members who received tenure within the last 10 to 15 years.

Requirements

Nomination packets should be submitted directly to the Committee on Committees with a complete letter which must include the following information:

  1. Nominee name and contact information
  2. A statement explaining the nominee's qualifications
  3. A focused curriculum vitae not to exceed two (2) pages outlining the candidate's Academic Senate service.
  4. Additional sources of supportive materials, if available

Selection Process

The University Committee on Committees (UCOC) solicits nominations from the Divisional Committees on Committees (CoC) at the beginning of every other academic year. The UC Riverside CoC will initiate a call for nominations and serve as the selection committee. The CoC will evaluate the merit and significance of the nominees' contributions in the areas specified in the above criteria. The Committee will select one nominee to send forward to the UCOC. Upon review of all divisional nominations, UCOC will recommend two nominees to the Academic Council. The Academic Council will make and ratify the final decision on the candidate(s) to receive the award. Up to two recipients may be selected. An announcement of the recipient(s) will be made during the last Assembly of the Academic Senate meeting of the academic year.

Please submit the completed nomination packets to: senate at ucr.edu<mailto:senate at ucr.edu> .
