[Senate] Passing of Mir Mulla, Professor Emeritus in Entomology

Dear colleagues,

With sadness, I relay the news that Mir Subhan Mulla, Distinguished Professor Emeritus in Entomology, passed away peacefully at home last Sunday, January 29, 2023.

Mir was a long-time faculty member at UCR, from 1956 until his retirement as a Distinguished Professor in Entomology in 2006. He continued his extraordinary career as a global leader in public health entomology and a highly respected teacher-mentor for numerous colleagues and young scholars, including the twenty-five whose PhD degrees he supervised. As an immigrant from Kandahar, Afghanistan, Mir was a philanthropist and an esteemed leader in the Riverside Muslim community. Obituary and a brief biography are attached.

A Muslim funeral prayer will be held tomorrow, Friday, February 3, followed by a public memorial service and burial to be held Saturday, February 4.

Donations in Mir's memory can be made to the UC Riverside Foundation "Dr. Mir S. Mulla and Lelia L. Mulla Endowed Scholarship Fund" or the Islamic Center of Riverside.

Please join me in our remembrance and celebration of Mir's legacy. We are honored to count him among the most renowned.
