Dear Colleagues,
This morning, self-attestation guidance was communicated by the Administration to Senate faculty. To maintain compliance, members of the Senate were asked to voluntarily submit an attestation form to record work stoppage in support of the strike of UAW-represented Academic Researchers, Academic Student Employees, Graduate Student Researchers, and Postdoctoral Scholars.
Given the nature of faculty work, the days and proportion of withheld labor is difficult to calibrate. It is up to the individual faculty to assess and report this information. I link below two letters undersigned by Academic Senate Chair Cochran and Vice Chair Steintrager that anthologize conversations and sentiments of Academic Senate Leadership, including the Divisional Chairs of each campus:

Guidance for Students & Trainees: https://senate.universityofcalifornia.edu/_files/reports/post-strike-guidance-for-students-trainees-jan2023.pdf
In service,
Sang-Hee Lee
Academic Senate Chair
