UCR Academic Senate - Faculty Feedback Forum on Budget Challenges (held via Zoom)
Dear UCR Faculty,
UCR anticipates an 8% cut in funding from the state at a moment when personnel costs are increasing (planned salary increases and upcoming graduate student contract negotiation) and federal funding for research has already been reduced, with additional cuts expected. In response to these immediate challenges, the Committee on Planning and Budget (CPB) invites faculty to participate in a forum on Monday, May 19, 2025, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM via Zoom to discuss the campus budget.
Forum participants will review the campus budget and collaborate to develop faculty recommendations on campus efforts to increase revenue and reduce expenses consistent with the campus mission and strategic plan.
Discussion topics will include but not be limited to:
(1) Resources that are essential to fulfill the mission of the university;
(2) Reversible flexibilities in response to financial challenges;
(3) Strategies to increase revenue; and
(4) Effective communications about budgetary and other matters with campus administrators.
With the advice and support of the Executive Council of the Riverside Division of the Academic Senate, CPB will share faculty opinions, insights and recommendations with campus administrators.
