[Students] IT Security Alert: Notice of Malicious Phishing Emails Targeting UCR

Dear Highlander Community,



Please be advised that ITS has received reports of malicious phishing
emails that are written to look as if they are coming from *reghelpdesk at ucr.edu
<reghelpdesk at ucr.edu>*, other Student Services departments on campus, or
individual campus users.



The subject of the email will look like it is a reply to an email (i.e.,
the subject line begins with Re: or RE: ).



The body of the email will contain a hyperlink with the text "DOCUMENT
DOWNLOAD LINK" that directs the user to a zip file download or other
Microsoft Office document. *This file contains malware and should not be
downloaded or opened.*



DO NOT click on any links in suspicious emails. All users are advised to
report suspicious emails to the ITS abuse email account at *abuse at ucr.edu
<abuse at ucr.edu>*. For step-by-step guidance on how to do this, please visit
the IT Knowledge Base at kb.ucr.edu and enter "Email Phishing: How to
notify the UCR Information Security Office" in the search bar.

best practices when learning and working online. For additional resources
