FROM THE OFFICE OF THE ASUCR VICE PRESIDENT OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS

Hello Highlanders,

Midterm elections are critical but are often overlooked because they don’t get the same attention as presidential elections. To be clear, the only real difference between a presidential election and a midterm election is the voting for president. That’s it. Midterm elections include elections for the entire House of Representatives, one-third of senators, and a number of local, state, and federal measures and candidates. This year the midterms include the election for Governor of California.

The midterm election is on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. UCR will be hosting a Vote Center at the Alumni Center from Saturday, November 5 to Tuesday, November 8. You can visit this Vote Center to:

  * Drop off your vote-by-mail ballot

  * Surrender your ballot and vote in person

  * Register to vote and if you still haven’t done so

The UCR Vote Center is meant to serve voters who are registered to vote with an address that is in Riverside County. The UCR Vote Center will accept vote-by-mail ballots from any address in California.

If you have not registered to vote yet, you can still do so up until and including on Election Day (November 8) by visiting a county elections office, polling place, or vote center. You can go here<https://caearlyvoting.sos.ca.gov/> and here<https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/polling-place/> to find locations that can help you with Same Day Voter Registration<https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/voter-registration/same-day-reg>. You can also check this website out<https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/voting-resources/voting-california/who-can-vote-california> to see if you are eligible to register and vote.

If you believe you are registered, but you are not sure what address you used to register with, you can visit the Voter Status website<https://voterstatus.sos.ca.gov/> to check. It is critical that you know what address you are registered with. California is a vote-by-mail state. This means that every voter, whether they requested it or not, will receive their ballot in the mail. If you registered with an address you no longer have access to, then you may not be able to retrieve your ballot. This is especially important for college students who may have living situations that change yearly as they work through college.

All of the hyperlinks in the above email will lead you to a California Secretary of State website. You can hover over the link to see where it will take you.

Make sure to check out vote.ucr.edu<https://vote.ucr.edu/> to more information.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to ucrlife at ucr.edu<mailto:ucrlife at ucr.edu>

Thank you and we hope you are registered if you are eligible, and you make your vote count!
