Dear Highlanders,

Welcome to the start of the Spring Quarter, we’re so glad you’re here.

As you begin the term, we want to take a moment to reflect on the values
that shape our Highlander community. At UC Riverside, we are committed to
ensuring that every student has access to an equitable and inclusive
educational experience. We encourage you to carry forward the spirit of
Tartan Soul: respect, accountability, integrity, and excellence, in your
daily interactions and engagement on campus.

A key part of living these values is upholding our Principles of Community.
These principles guide how we support one another, especially when
navigating important topics like free expression. We encourage you to
review the full document
<https://chancellor.ucr.edu/sites/default/files/2019-01/community.pdf> or
explore the overview <https://youtu.be/lEwSdD_o288?si=2j3rRrOnkStA5QhE> to
better understand your role in fostering a respectful and inclusive campus
environment.

UC Riverside is deeply committed to free expression, while also standing
firmly against hate and harassment in any form. Sometimes this means
encountering differing opinions that may be challenging. For more
information about free speech at UCR, please visit freespeech.ucr.edu. If
you experience or witness behavior that affects or concerns you or someone
around you, support is available. You may report incidents through the
Office of Title IX, Equal Opportunity & Affirmative Action using the
official reporting process here
<https://uctitleix.i-sight.com/portal/Riverside>.

We also want to remind you that you are not alone. Counseling and
Psychological Services (CAPS) <https://counseling.ucr.edu/> offers a range
of support, including virtual and in-person counseling, crisis services,
and group resources. If you need immediate support at any time, a counselor
is available 24/7 at (951) UCR-TALK.

As the term gets underway, please take care of yourselves and one another.
Prioritize your well-being, stay connected, and don’t hesitate to reach out
for support. The Dean of Students Office <https://deanofstudents.ucr.edu/>
and the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
<https://studentaffairs.ucr.edu/> team are here to help you navigate any
challenges you may face.

Wishing you a strong and successful Spring Quarter.

Sincerely,
