Highlanders return to campus housing
Moving day was a little different for students this year with new safety protocols in place. Campus housing will have fewer students, who will be tested regularly and separated into small groups.

Emergency fund created to aid employees
A new program offers grants of up to $1,000 to UCR employees facing financial hardship due to the coronavirus. The emergency fund has a $300,000 opening balance and is accepting donations to support those most affected by the pandemic.

CNAS exceeds $100 million Living the Promise goal
A $600,000 anonymous gift to the Department of Physics and Astronomy helped put the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences over its $100 million goal for the Living the Promise fundraising campaign.

Grant to fund multiple sclerosis research
Seema Tiwari-Woodruff, a professor of biomedical sciences, has received a $373,000 grant from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to support a project exploring a new treatment for the disease.

Psychology researcher receives NSF grant
Psychology researcher Brent Hughes has received a nearly $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to study a phenomena known as "deindividuation," in which some people view those outside their racial group as interchangeable or indistinct.

Passing of biochemistry Professor Daniel Gallie
Daniel Gallie, a professor of biochemistry who joined UCR in 1990, passed away Sept. 13 after a five-year struggle with cancer. He's remembered by his colleagues and friends for his many research and academic accomplishments.
