Dear Highlander Community,

UCR Planning, Design, & Construction (PD&C), Facilities, and Information
Technology Solutions (ITS) would like to advise you of *upcoming facility
maintenance to the SOM-E data center, which requires a planned power
shutdown on Sunday, January 9*. *As a result of this maintenance, some
campus IT services will be unavailable from 5:30 AM until 10:30 AM*. This
maintenance is required to continue work on the new School of Medicine
building, which will share a power line with the SOM-E data center.

This maintenance was originally attempted in December but unforeseen
difficulties caused loss of power to the data center, resulting in a
disruption to campus services. PD&C, Facilities, and ITS have partnered to
identify the root cause of those difficulties and have planned this
upcoming power shutdown accordingly to minimize risk to the greatest extent
possible. In accordance with that plan, some IT services will be taken
offline in a proactive attempt to safeguard services in the unlikely event
of power loss to the data center.

While every precaution has been taken to avoid disruption to campus
services during normal business hours, we are notifying campus of this
planned power shutdown to provide general awareness in the unlikely event
there is a disruption to campus services that exceeds the planned
maintenance window. In such an event, a follow-up email would be sent to
campus to notify the community of affected services and resolution status.

Please visit techalerts.ucr.edu, where we have provided a comprehensive
list of affected services and where we will continue to keep campus updated
on the status of this planned power shutdown.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as PD&C, Facilities, and ITS
work together to improve the University’s infrastructure.

Enabling Your Continued Success,
