[Ucrfacultyandstaff] Campus Business Operations - November 20th & November 21st

Dear Campus Community:

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Local 3299 (AFSCME) Union has provided formal notice of a strike and picketing activity by members of the Service (SX) unit and Patient Care Technical (EX) Unit. The strike is scheduled to take place at all UC medical centers, campuses, and the Lawrence Berkeley Lab. The 48-hour strike will commence at 12:00 a.m. on November 20, 2024, and conclude at 11:59 p.m. November 21, 2024. In addition to the primary strike by the SX unit, the following units have called for a strike at some campus locations as well: Research Professional Unit (RX), Technical Unit (TX) and Health Care Professionals (HX).  UCR was not named as a strike location for those units.

Some critical campus services may be impacted during some or all the November 20th and 21st union activity. If there are any questions regarding the information provided, please contact the specific business unit listed or the Employee and Labor Relations Department at Labor.Relations at ucr.edu

University Extension
All University Extension operations will continue as regularly scheduled with no anticipated impacts or interruptions.

Campus Veterinarian's Office:
Scheduled services will continue without interruption.

Student Health Services:
SHS/CAPS will only have limited triage services available on November 20th and November 21st. Services that may not be available include X-ray services, pharmacy, and lab services. After-hours support lines will remain open as usual.

Counseling and Psychological Services:
Scheduled services will continue without interruption.

School of Medicine Health Clinic Services:
All School of Medicine Clinics will remain open for regular business.

Facilities Services:
Facilities Services will continue, to the best of their ability, to maintain service levels with the staffing available.  Custodial & Housekeeping and Landscape Services operations are the services most likely to be impacted.  During the November 20, 2024, and November 21, 2024 dates, Facilities Services will focus on building security (unlocking and locking facilities); health and safety issues including trash removal; and providing setups for scheduled events. Please contact Facilities Services if you have a critical need that is related to health and safety concerns.

Mail Services:

  *   All mail may be delayed by approximately 2 days
  *   Departments may retrieve their mail from Mail Services (optional)
  *   Express, perishable and priority mail will continue to be delivered on the same day
  *   Please drop off emergency mail that is critical to be sent out the same day at the Highlander Service Station or Mail Services building

Shipping & Receiving:

  *   Receipt and delivery of Office Max, FedEx and Amazon to the campus shipping and receiving location is expected to continue as normal
  *   There may be a reduction in the packages delivered by UPS or other unionized delivery companies
  *   Individual deliveries will be sent directly to offices or laboratories and may experience delays during this time

  *   Digital Print Services jobs may be delayed by approximately two days

Transportation Services:
Fleet and parking operations will continue as regularly scheduled with no anticipated impacts or interruptions. We also do not foresee service issues with RTA during the strike days.

Campus Housing:
All communities, housing area front desks, as well as the Housing Services Administration Building, will remain open for normal business and hours. Custodial operations will continue but in a reduced format; urgent/time sensitive maintenance issues will be responded to on a priority basis.
