The U.S. Department of Education announced Sept. 10 the elimination

$350 million in federal funding for programs that support higher education
institutions designated as Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs),
Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs), and Asian American and Native
American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISIs).
Labor unions, faculty, staff, and student organizations have filed a suit

against the federal administration alleging unlawful justification for
terminating federal research funds.

The University of California has launched an advocacy campaign across its
10-campus system to spotlight the need to preserve UC’s life-changing
research. The campaign will feature weekly themes; the theme for this week

In a Times Higher Education article, Paul D’Anieri, professor of political
science at the University of California, Riverside

said small programs and classes in the humanities may be among the
casualties of a harsher funding environment under President Donald Trump.
