[Faculty] Formation of the inaugural Scholars-At-Risk Coordinating Committee – please consider joining

Dear Colleagues,

From 2019-2022, UCR ran a pilot program whereby international scholars-at-risk or refugee scholars identified and vetted by the International Institute of Education-Scholar Rescue Fund (IIE-SRF) and Scholars at Risk (SAR), or otherwise identified by UCR units, could be considered for support by and placement with UCR departments, Centers, and laboratories, for one-year visiting appointments.

That initial period is now over and UCR International Affairs seeks to form a campus-wide Scholars-At-Risk Coordinating Committee to undertake the following tasks:

  *   Review the past program and its efforts to identify and place scholars-at risk;
  *   Explore ways to promote and raise campus-wide awareness of the program;
  *   Engage with faculty across the campus to identify potential hosts for scholars-at-risk;
  *   Explore effective ways to cooperate with SAR and IIE-SRF in identifying and placing scholars;
  *   Explore other ways, short of hosting scholars, that UCR faculty could contribute to assisting international scholars-at-risk;
  *   Develop strategies for fundraising, including grant writing, in order to sustain the program.

Active participation on the SAR Coordinating Committee will be recognized as a campus service contribution in faculty merit and promotion files.
