Dear Highlanders,
As you begin this academic year, you will encounter new opportunities to
get involved on campus. There are many different student organizations at
University of California, Riverside (UCR), including fraternities and
sororities. There are many benefits to joining a recognized student
organization at UCR, including leadership opportunities, networking, and
involvement both on and off campus. Recognized student organizations are
able to hold events on campus, apply for funding, and participate in campus
events. Our recognized student organizations actively contribute to the
excellence of the UCR and greater Riverside communities. To better
understand all the hard work our recognized fraternities and sororities do
throughout the academic year, refer to the annual Community Report
<https://studentlife.ucr.edu/document/2024-2025-community-report>.
In order for you to make informed choices about your involvement, UCR would
like to provide all students with the following information regarding risk
management and student organizations. The list of dismissed and/or
unrecognized student organizations will change on a regular basis and we
advise you to refer to this *website*
<https://studentlife.ucr.edu/non-recognized-organizations> for the current
list of unrecognized student organizations or contact the Student Life
Office with any questions. We encourage you to explore involvement
opportunities with recognized student organizations by visiting
*HighlanderLink* <https://highlanderlink.ucr.edu/>.
*Hazing Prevention*
Another concern on college campuses is hazing. UCR is charged with the
responsibility of providing an intellectually engaging environment in which
standards for behavior are clearly communicated to members of the
community. We encourage all students to take action in any situations
where they feel individuals may be at risk. If you have heard of or seen
any activity that may put students at risk, you can report it to UCPD,
Student Conduct, the Fraternity and Sorority Involvement Center, Student
Life, Athletics, Residential Education, or the Dean of Students.
For additional information regarding hazing, please visit our Dean of
Students website here
<https://deanofstudents.ucr.edu/policies-and-procedures/hazing>.
