[Students] Access Microsoft and Google Productivity Tools by Browser or Desktop App

Productivity Tools to Power Your Learning
Both Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications can be accessed via
your UCR NetID account. Office desktop applications are available for
download.

Highlanders,

As a registered UCR student, in addition to Google Workspace, you have
access to the full Microsoft Office suite—including Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, and more—at no additional cost. Whether you need to write a
research paper, analyze data for a lab, or create a presentation, these
essential tools are available for you to install on your personal computer
or use via browser.

Install Microsoft Office Applications

Follow these steps to get started:

   1.

   Navigate to the Microsoft Education page:
   https://portal.office.com/account
   2.

   When prompted to sign in, enter your UCR email address in the format
   NetID at ucr.edu.
   -

      Important: Please be sure to use your UCR NetID followed by @ucr.edu
      (example: scottyb01 at ucr.edu). Do not use your alias email address
      (e.g., firstname.lastname at email.ucr.edu or firstname.lastname@
      medsch.ucr.edu) for this step.
      3.

   You will be redirected to the UCR login page. Follow the prompts to
   enter your NetID and password, and then verify your identity using Duo
   multi-factor authentication.
   4.

   Once logged in, you will see the option to “Install Office.” Click the
   button to begin the download process.


Run the Applications From a Browser

If you prefer not to install software, or if you're using a device like a
Chromebook, you can also access browser-based versions of all the Office
applications. Simply log in <https://portal.office.com/account> using the
steps above, and you can start using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint directly
in your web browser—no installation needed.

Other Productivity Tools

If you prefer Google’s productivity tools over Microsoft Office, please be
reminded that you can access Google's suite of browser-based
applications—including
Docs, Sheets, Slides, and more—from your UCR Google account. A quick way to
access these tools is by navigating to rmail.ucr.edu and clicking the
“Google apps” grid icon located next to your account profile picture.
Please note that Google does not support installable desktop applications
for its productivity tools.

Storage Considerations

Please note that these services have cloud storage
<https://its.ucr.edu/storage> limitations. All student accounts have a 1GB
limit in Microsoft OneDrive. In Google Workspace, undergraduate student
accounts have a 25GB limit and graduate students have a 100GB limit.
